7 Days of Prayer, Day 4

Devotional
"Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven"
We dealt with "your kingdom come" in yesterday's devotional.  We saw that Jesus wasn't just talking about a kingdom to be established here on earth, but was also speaking to believers entering personally into that kingdom.

Today's portion of the prayer ties into "your kingdom come".  Obviously, we cannot have the kingdom of God come into our lives if we continue to allow our will to prevail over God's.  God's will is absolutely done in heaven!  The angels go where he commands when he commands it.  The heavens arrange themselves as he commands.  What He wills happens.  Not so much here on earth.  We very often do what he wants when we want to.  It’s a true clash of the wills.  That's why humility and submission are huge themes in our bibles.  Without humility and submission, God cannot truly have his way in our lives.

When you pray "your will be done on earth as it is in heaven", you are actually speaking to yourself!  God will not subvert your will.  He may try to change it, or mold it and shape it, but he absolutely will not simply override it.  And to be truthful, just what kind of relationship would that be?

God's will is for you to enjoy your life with him.  His will is for you to prosper and be blessed.  That can only happen if you truly surrender your will to his.

In your time of prayer today, ask God to reveal to you the areas in your life where your will continues to override his.  Please be open in this request, because sometimes we simply don’t want to let go of things.  Commit to him to change those areas of your life and to come into conformity with his will for you and for your life.

Prayer
Father, I truly want your kingdom to come in my life today.  I surrender to you and humbly ask you today to reveal to me those areas of my life where my will is prevailing over yours.  I know that your great desire is to bless me and prosper me and that cannot happen as long as my will prevails.  Father, open my eyes today to those areas of my life where I have not surrendered to you.  Quicken my spirit, Lord, to receive these things.  Help me to change my life so that in every way it pleases you.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

Scripture Reading
Hebrews 13:20-21 (NKJV) 20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Philippians 2:13 (NKJV) 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Mark 3:35 (NKJV) 35 For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother."

True surrender to Jesus may the biggest battle any believer faces. I want to go to heaven. I want the blessings. But can I just please do it my way? Jesus just might be saying, "my way or the highway"!
